Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about using a Vyroam eSIM — before, during, and after your trip.
Getting started
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built directly into your phone. Instead of inserting a physical card, you download a data plan over the internet, scan a QR code, and you're connected — no hardware required.
Yes — purchase your plan before you leave, then install the eSIM while you still have a Wi-Fi connection. Once installed, your plan activates automatically when your phone connects to a supported network at your destination.
Most iPhones from XS onwards and many modern Android devices (Samsung Galaxy S21+, Google Pixel 3+, and others) support eSIM. You can check your specific model on our eSIM Compatibility page.
Yes. Most dual-SIM devices let you use your home SIM for calls and texts while using your Vyroam eSIM for data. This way you keep your number and avoid roaming charges at the same time.
Plans & coverage
Vyroam offers plans for 190+ destinations worldwide, including country-specific plans and regional plans that cover multiple countries with a single eSIM — ideal for multi-stop trips.
Vyroam plans are data-only. You can still make calls and send texts using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or iMessage over your data connection. For traditional calls, keep your home SIM active alongside the eSIM.
Yes. Regional plans automatically connect you to local networks in each covered country within the region. Simply travel across borders — your eSIM switches networks without any action on your part.
Validity varies by plan and is clearly shown before you purchase — typically 7, 15, or 30 days. The countdown usually begins from first use, not from the date of purchase, so you can buy in advance without losing time.
Where available, plans include 4G LTE and 5G connectivity via local network partners. Actual speeds depend on your location, local network conditions, and your device's capabilities.
Setup & activation
After purchase, you'll receive a QR code by email. On iPhone: go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the code. On Android: go to Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add mobile plan. The whole process takes under two minutes.
Your plan activates the first time your device connects to a local network at your destination. If your plan has a fixed start date, that will be stated clearly at purchase.
Yes — installing the eSIM requires an internet connection (your home Wi-Fi or mobile data). We recommend installing it before you travel rather than at the airport.
First, make sure you've set the Vyroam eSIM as your active data line in your phone's settings. If it still doesn't connect, try toggling airplane mode on and off, or restart your device. If the issue persists, contact our support team.
Using your eSIM
Hotspot (tethering) support depends on the specific plan. It is clearly indicated in the plan details before purchase. Many plans do support it, letting you share data with a laptop or tablet.
Once your data allowance is used up, your connection will stop or slow significantly depending on the plan. You can purchase a new plan to top up — there is no automatic charge or overage fee.
No — for security reasons, eSIM QR codes are single-use. Once installed on a device, the eSIM cannot be transferred or reinstalled. Do not delete your eSIM unless your plan has fully expired.
In most cases, yes. Your phone will automatically search for and connect to the best available local network as soon as you turn off airplane mode.
