eSIM Not Working? How to Fix the Most Common Problems
No data connection after installing your travel eSIM? Work through this step-by-step diagnostic to get connected in minutes.
Most eSIM connection problems have a simple fix. Work through the steps below in order — the issue is usually resolved within the first two or three steps.
Quick fix first
- 1Toggle airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off again
- 2Go to Settings and confirm your Vyroam eSIM is selected as the mobile data line
- 3Confirm Data Roaming is ON for the eSIM (not off)
- 4Restart your phone
This resolves the problem for most users. If you're still not connected, continue below.
No data connection at destination
Check the eSIM is active
Settings → Cellular (iPhone) or SIM Manager (Android). Confirm your Vyroam eSIM is listed and enabled — not just installed but toggled on.
Enable Data Roaming on the eSIM
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → your eSIM → Data Roaming → On. Samsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → Data Roaming → On (with the eSIM selected). This step is the most commonly missed.
Set the eSIM as the mobile data source
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → select your eSIM. Android: SIM Manager → Mobile Data → select the eSIM.
Toggle network mode
Try setting your network to 4G/LTE only (rather than automatic 5G/4G/3G) — some destinations have patchy 5G but solid 4G coverage.
Disable home SIM data roaming
If both SIMs have data roaming enabled, your phone may default to the home SIM (using expensive roaming). Disable Data Roaming on your home SIM only.
Connected to wrong network
If you have a signal but no internet, your eSIM may have connected to a network it doesn't have an agreement with. Set network selection to Automatic in Settings, or manually select a major local operator.
APN settings
Most Vyroam plans configure APN settings automatically. If your connection is established but internet doesn't work, check the APN manually:
- 1iPhone: Settings → Cellular → your eSIM → APN Settings. Check the APN field shows a value (not blank).
- 2Android: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → Access Point Names. Confirm an APN is listed for the eSIM.
- 3If blank, contact Vyroam support for the correct APN for your destination plan.
Carrier lock
If the eSIM installed successfully but refuses to connect anywhere, your phone may be carrier-locked. A locked phone only accepts eSIM plans from its tied carrier. Contact your home carrier to unlock your device — this is usually free after 12 months of contract.
