How to Install an eSIM on Samsung Galaxy
Step-by-step guide to adding a travel eSIM on Samsung Galaxy S21, S22, S23, S24, Z Fold, Z Flip and supported A-series devices. QR code and manual methods.
Samsung Galaxy devices have supported eSIM since the Galaxy S20 series. The installation process takes about two minutes and works the same across the S and Z Fold/Flip ranges. The path through Settings varies slightly between One UI versions, but the steps are consistent.
Compatible Samsung devices
- Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 series (all variants)
- Galaxy Z Fold 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
- Galaxy Z Flip 3, 4, 5, 6
- Galaxy A54, A55 (select markets only)
Check before you buy
Samsung eSIM availability varies by region and carrier. Devices sold through certain carriers may have eSIM disabled at the software level. To verify: go to Settings → Connections → SIM Manager. If you see 'Download SIM' or 'Add mobile plan', you're good to go.
Before you start
- Connect to Wi-Fi before starting
- Ensure your device is running One UI 2.0 or later
- Your device must be carrier-unlocked to use third-party eSIM plans
- Have your QR code accessible on a separate screen (or be ready to enter details manually)
QR code method (recommended)
Open Settings
Swipe down and tap the Settings gear, or find Settings in your app drawer.
Go to Connections → SIM Manager
On older One UI versions, this may be under Connections → SIM card manager.
Tap Add mobile plan or Download SIM
The label varies by One UI version. Both options do the same thing.
Scan QR code
Select 'Scan carrier QR code'. Point your camera at the QR code in your confirmation email.
Confirm the plan
Review the plan details and tap Confirm or Add.
Set as default data SIM
Go back to SIM Manager and set the new eSIM as your mobile data SIM. Keep your physical SIM active for calls.
Manual entry method
Open Settings → Connections → SIM Manager
Tap Add mobile plan.
Choose manual entry
Select 'Add using activation code' or a similar option.
Enter the activation details
Type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your confirmation email exactly as shown.
Confirm and complete
Tap Next and follow the prompts to finish.
After installation
Once the eSIM is installed, go to Settings → Connections → SIM Manager and confirm it appears. Set it as the default for mobile data. In the eSIM's settings, make sure Data Roaming is enabled — your travel eSIM needs this to connect abroad.
Troubleshooting
- 'Add mobile plan' option not showing — your device may be carrier-locked, or eSIM may not be supported in your region. Contact your Samsung carrier.
- QR scan fails — make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi, not mobile data. Try entering manually.
- eSIM installed but no internet — check that the eSIM is set as the data SIM and Data Roaming is enabled.
- 'This plan has already been used' — QR codes are single-use. Contact Vyroam support if you haven't activated it yet.
- Device shows physical SIM only — some carrier-branded Samsung devices have eSIM disabled in firmware. Your carrier would need to unlock this.
