How to Install an eSIM on Google Pixel
Step-by-step guide to installing a travel eSIM on Google Pixel 4a, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Includes QR code and manual methods, plus Pixel-specific tips.
Google Pixel phones are among the easiest devices to install eSIM on. Google's stock Android interface keeps the settings path clean and consistent across generations — and Pixel phones are sold unlocked by default, meaning there's no carrier-lock issue to worry about.

Before you start

- Ensure your Pixel is running Android 9 or later
- Bought through Google Store? You're already unlocked. Carrier-purchased Pixels may be locked — check with your carrier first.
- Have your QR code ready on a separate screen
QR code method
Open Settings
Tap the Settings app.
Go to Network & internet → SIMs
On Pixel 6 and later, it's under Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. On older Pixels, look for 'Network & internet → Mobile network'.
Tap the + icon or Download a SIM
A prompt appears asking how to add your eSIM.
Choose Scan QR code
Your camera opens. Point it at the QR code.
Confirm the plan
Review the details shown and tap Download.
Set as active data SIM
Return to SIMs settings and confirm the eSIM is set as the preferred data line. Enable Data Roaming on the eSIM.
Pixel-specific note
On Pixel 8 and later, Google has moved the SIM settings to Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. If you can't find 'Add SIM', search 'SIM' in the Settings search bar.
After installation
Once installed, go to Settings → Network & internet → SIMs and make sure your Vyroam eSIM is listed as the mobile data SIM. Enable Data Roaming. Your plan activates automatically when you arrive at your destination and connect to a local network.
Troubleshooting
- No 'Download SIM' option — check Settings search. If it's genuinely missing, your device may have eSIM disabled by a carrier.
- QR code scan fails — try entering the activation code manually (Settings → SIMs → Add → Enter code).
- Installed but no data — check Data Roaming is on under the eSIM's individual settings, and it's set as the data SIM.
- Slow or no connection at destination — toggle airplane mode on and off to force a network reconnect.
